Methods of initial and diagnostic assessment to negotiating and agreeing on individual learning goals with learners

My experience in the teaching and learning process when dealing with a group is that a classroom has learners with varied needs. Initial and diagnostic assessment usually reveals diverse learners’ requirements. The broad range of needs thus requires skilful and specific planning, design, delivery and assessment.

Having set targets with individual learners within my class, I plan my lesson with appropriate materials that meet the identified needs. My delivery methodology of the lessons from the introduction, development of the lesson, and conclusion aim to engage learners and allow them to participate intended to develop their skills, talents and knowledge. I provide feedback to learners in such a way that each of them grows towards their set targets, both long-term and short term, as planned after the initial assessment. I also provide the required help (support needs) as we progress with the students toward their set goals. In the case of referrals, I recommend appropriately according to the learner’s needs.
